Role Overview

This role is key to the success of our business and you will represent our business to the customer daily. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of exceptional levels of customer service and ensure the customer receives their deliveries in excellent condition, on time - every time.

Shift Pattern – working 5 out of 7 on rotating shift

How will you contribute?

  • Always ensure Health and Safety compliance and promotion within the contract
  • Ensure a positive customer experience is delivered on each delivery
  • To proactively motivate HDP colleagues to achieve planned targets and deadlines by providing guidance and encouragement
  • Ensure company procedures are strictly adhered to
  • Ensure HDP colleagues are briefed at the start of every shift to communicate planned requirements and provide information on performance, company news and procedures
  • To ensure drivers are always legally compliant (including WTD) and address issues of lack of conformance through the appropriate disciplinary channels
  • To ensure that all the staff are fully trained and inducted, arranging refresher training as required
  • Analyse reports against key performance indicators and advise on action to improve results
  • Monitor performance, timekeeping, attendance, overtime and sickness levels of individual colleagues and action as per procedures
  • Ensure delivery technician ‘Welcomes’ are conducted at the end of each journey to check for missed deliveries or other issues and take corrective action
  • Conduct monthly team meetings to communication performance levels and key contract information to employees
  • Ensure enough staffing levels are maintained to ensure success against key performance indicators and take corrective action where required, as per the current procedure
  • Conduct absence reviews, disciplinary, grievance and appeal meetings as required and in line with current procedures
  • Ensure that administration is carried out in a thorough and consistent manner ensuring that payroll is notified of all changes / amendments / holidays etc
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required for the effective operation of the function and the depot
  • Help control costs to meet both budget and flexed budget
  • Implementation and maintenance of best practice value to all aspects of the business with a view to continually improving working practice, profit and efficiency
  • Lead, motivate, train and develop the team and ensure consistent full utilization of resources is achieved
  • Develop new procedures and training methods in order to drive performance to new levels whilst at the same time aiming to reduce cost
  • Complete regular performance reviews with direct reports and implement improvement action plans where required

Essential:

  • Leadership and management of a team with acute awareness and respect for Health & Safety
  • CPC holder – International
  • Transport management experience
  • Excellent team building, leadership and motivational skills
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships with customers and colleagues by demonstrating a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Must be able to demonstrate the commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility to be able to respond to seasonal customer demand and see the customer’s business from their perspective
  • Negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to present well-reasoned arguments to evaluate and solve opportunities and risks
  • An understanding of budgetary implications and their impact on operational KPIs
  • Leading by example and displaying a fair and consistent management style
  • Experience of Transport Management Systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Customer focused with excellent leadership and communication skills, able to build effective relationships with team, client and other third parties
  • Enthusiastic, committed and able to respond in a positive manner to change

Desirable:

  • Transport management experience ideally gained within a fast paced, retail distribution environment, with Home Delivery expertise
  • Ability to provide budgetary and financial awareness and be able to work within an closed book environment
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and the ability to implement change as required
  • Experience of dealing with disciplinary, grievance and absence management procedures
  • Experience of a creating a strong culture of Continuous Improvement
