Role Overview

We’re looking for a talented, enthusiastic PR Executive to contribute towards the development and delivery of content, generated from across the Wincanton Group, to build and protect Wincanton’s external reputation across the UK and Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and can bring their PR experience to the team to help make a real impact. Reporting to the Group Communications Manager, and working closely with the Digital Content Manager, the focus of this role will be to deliver reputational stories and articles for use across many channels, closely monitoring outputs, and providing PR measurement and reporting in line with agreed KPIs.

How will you contribute?

  • Be responsible to produce press releases, news stories, articles, thought leadership, award entries, blogs and case studies, social media content and posts.
  • Deliver against key objectives as laid out in the sector communications plans.
  • Ensure consistency across content produced in terms of tone of voice and messaging.
  • To act as a point of contact for PR agencies, liaising with stakeholders within the business to fulfil potential media opportunities.
  • ‘Mine’ stories from within the business, identifying and creating stories which can be used to support the reputation of the business.
  • Monitor media coverage – and evaluate and report PR performance based on key measures.
  • Provide group and sector reputation activity reports, demonstrating against the PR activities delivered and their effectiveness
  • Provide cover as deputy to the Group Communications Manager and when required to the wider marketing team, e.g. holiday absence and sickness

What will you bring?

  • Excellent copywriting skills: You need to be hot on spelling, grammar and proof-reading, as well as have an excellent understanding and demonstrable experience of writing for editorial. You’ll also need experience of writing about complex or technical subjects.
  • Excellent research skills: You will spend a lot of your time obtaining stories from around the business, so you need to have the confidence to approach experts within the business to get information.
  • Digital skills: You will understand digital platform and social media channels, and experience of writing for online audiences.
  • Timekeeping: You will often be working to tight deadlines, so you need to be able to work quickly and efficiently, without compromising on quality.
  • Team player: You will need to be self-motivated and able to work on own initiative whilst being a team player and have the ability and willingness to ‘muck in’ and support the wider team as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: PR is all about people, so you need to be approachable, friendly and empathetic, and can relate to people on different levels within the company, our agencies and with the media.
  • Organisational skills: With many projects on the go, you’ll need excellent organisational and administrative skills, and to be able to organise your time effectively.


  • Degree educated or equivalent.
  • Some experience working in a PR agency, press office or in-house B2B marketing environment, with a strong emphasis on copywriting, is essential.
