Role Overview

An exciting vacancy has arisen for a Regional Operations Manager based in the Northern region to join our Wickes Contract. This role assumes responsibility for a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation which includes: a fleet of 20 vehicles and a team of 40 colleagues including 2 traffic supervisors. This will primarily be based at our Sherburn site, with regular regional travel.

Working within an open book contract environment, and reporting to the General Manager, this role will effectively manage a team of drivers, resources, and operational cost while at the same time manage Health & Safety and Legal Compliance.

How will you contribute?

  • Effective and efficient management of a dedicated driver team covering the North, including clerical and management colleagues.
  • Overall responsibility for legal compliance and safety within the region
  • Manage operational efficiency and cost to agreed targets
  • Drive KPI performance improvement for the region
  • Understand variances in Planned Vs Actual with ownership of improvement strategy
  • Ownership of PDA Track and Trace compliance and ensuring best in class service to the customer
  • Management of tachograph infringements
  • Ensure relevant KPI’s are met and reported
  • Health & Safety performance management and ownership of regional Glide Path
  • Attendance at operational reviews as required
  • Use of best practice and innovation to improve efficiency through the transport function
  • Provide a key interface with Wickes at all levels, managing their expectations and developing an effective working relationship

What will you bring?

  • Experience in transport management with a proven track record of delivering consistently with high-level operational performance
  • Analytical thinker with excellent organisational skills
  • PC literate
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commercially astute
  • Ability to fully understand transport and customer policies
  • Excellent team player whilst able to work on own initiative
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions
  • Strategic, innovative and able to review operations providing cost effective solutions
  • Ideally CPC international qualified
  • The successful candidate will be required, on occasions, to cover other areas of the Business Unit, which includes travel to other areas of the UK.
