Role Overview

Reporting to the Facilities & Security Manager, the individual will be expected to support in ensuring the Facilities & Security department and its personnel provide effective facilities and security support to the operation in order to meet all key performance indicators and exceed customer expectations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of department personnel and contractor works, with a focus on minimising disruption to the warehouse operation whilst remaining fully compliant with all applicable standards and requirements; out of hours and weekend working will be required
  • Ensure site defects are logged and appropriately actioned in a timely manner, in line with the site defect process                               
  • Ensure all department inventories & schedules are kept up to date and are adhered to
  • People management responsibilities, including but not limited to managing and authorising staff leave ensuring full team availability; motivating and managing the team to achieve, and where possible exceed, all performance objectives; monitoring performance, timekeeping, attendance, overtime and sickness levels of individual colleagues and action as per procedures
  • Provide support for the DLC Samlesbury and other Air sector sites as required
  • Ensure a proactive approach to Health & Safety via risk assessment and by ensuring team members and contractors comply with all H&S requirements                  
  • Update and maintain all processes and work instructions, ensuring that all staff are fully trained in line with the internal training requirements
  • Promote effective communication, including two-way communication with team members where related to their involvement in Company business; ensuring line manager is informed of all material matters/incidents relating to the area of responsibility, in particular any incident or situation that could compromise site security or lead to non-compliance with a Health & Safety requirement; attending relevant meetings with stakeholders and suppliers
  • Provide a responsive, professional service, being flexible to react to unexpected situations and provide proactive solutions
  • Support site induction of visitors, contractors and new starters                  
  • Act as key holder for designated site(s) as required                          
  • Deputise for the Facilities & Security Manager as required            

Skills and Experience

  • The individual needs to be able to demonstrate attention to detail and an accurate and precise way of working
  • PC literate and numerate with good communication skills, including a minimum of a basic understanding of Microsoft Office and the ability to maintain and improve intermediate level spreadsheets
  • Demonstrate good team motivation and communication skills
  • Able to provide and understand the need for a high standard of customer service, both to the warehouse operation and to Wincanton's customer
  • A proactive, flexible and "can do" attitude to resolve issues and challenges
  • Flexibility is required regarding shift patterns 
  • Possess a positive attitude and the ability to suggest methods of improvement and be actively involved in improvement techniques
  • Basic knowledge of building services, plant and equipment
  • Appropriately qualified to issue permits to work for activities such as working at height and working with electricity
  • Ability to train others to a high standard
  • Reasonable working knowledge of legislation applicable to warehouse facilities management
