Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced commercially focussed accountant to join our Industrial & Transport Sector . You will be Finance & Commercial Manager for multiple sites/contracts, providing proactive end to end financial and commercial services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting and forming a partnership with the North West General Manager to drive business requirements;
  • Managing the finance team for one principle contract and several smaller contracts;
  • Play a lead role in period reviews with the customers and internally including preparation and presentation of commentary to support costs and KPI’s;
  • Building excellent customer relationships with goal of achieving a Trusted Advisor status;
  • Providing commercial control to contracts, ensuring risks are fully mitigated and opportunities are leveraged;
  • Introducing strong financial governance to underlying processes (management accounts, budgets, forecasts, business cases etc);
  • As a key member of the contracts’ management team, responsible for all financial, commercial and administrative matters for multiple sites;
  • Seeking and introducing best practice with the aim of improving the control environment and process efficiency;
  • Preparation of capital expenditure justifications and monitoring of performance against key contractual parameters;
  • Ensure Wincanton internal controls and procedures are in place and complied with at all times.

Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • An experienced and qualified accountant;
  • Background in contract accounting beneficial;
  • Developed numerical and literacy skills are essential, combined with ability to translate financial / commercial issues to a non-financial audience;
  • Excellent process improvement experience using excel models to introduce efficiency and control to a business;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop effective relationships and trust with customers and Wincanton internal stakeholders;
  • An influential and challenging individual and able to motivate and develop staff.
